Work of Yazda team recognized at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Yazda would like to congratulate Rozin Khalil, Yazda UK Board Member, and Mathew Nelson, Yazda legal Team Member ( Member of Amal Clooney`s Team) on receiving their well deserved Certificate of Appreciation for service to defend religious freedom and beliefs signed by Lord Tariq Ahmad, the UK Minister of State UN & Commonwealth and UK Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to promote religious freedom.

The Initiative took place at the UK`S Foreign & Commonwealth to honour frontline workers, volunteers & faith leaders on Freedom of Religion or Belief.

For over four years and as a part of Yazda Global Advocacy Campaign, Rozin played an important role in campaigning on behalf of Yazidi women and girls abducted by ISIS, promoting human rights, uncovering ISIS crimes and more.

Since the spring of 2016, Mathew Nelson who is a member of a legal team leaded by Amal Clooney has acted as legal pro bono counsel for Yazda, as well as for UN Goodwill Ambassador Nadia Murad and other survivors of the Yazidi genocide.

As victims’ counsel, the team is seeking to secure accountability for international crimes perpetrated by ISIS against the Yazidi community in Iraq and Syria, including genocide, mass executions, sexual enslavement and trafficking, recruitment of child soldiers and forced displacement, among other war crimes and crimes against humanity.
