24th January was the International Day of Education. To celebrate the role of education for peace and development, Yazda organized an event in Zorava that welcomed more than 100 people from the collective of Zorava as well as from nearby villages. The principals of Zorava School and Duhola School gave speeches encouraging students to study and stay motivated to have better chances in the future.
Many performances were given by the youth – poetry, dancing and traditional Kurmanji songs. The students also presented a play that had a hidden message on the importance of education. The event was finished with a cultural competition between various groups of students.
This was organized in cooperation with Zorava Youth Center as part of the USAID funded and IOM supported the project, “Supporting the return of the displaced population in the Nineveh Plains and West Nineveh”.
