Yesterday, Yazda advisor, Mr Jamel Chomer and director of Yazda’s Baghdad office Mrs. Hutham Al- Hashimi met the Swedish Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Pontus Melander, to discuss his last visit to Sinjar and the issues that face minorities.
The Ambassador summarized his visit to Sinjar and talked about what he had noticed regarding the suffering of people, and the extent of the destruction in the city and its surrounding areas.
Yazda representatives praised and thanked the Ambassador for his encouragement to visit the region at the time, despite some spreading rumors about the danger and lack of security in Sinjar and wished that this visit should be a signal for other diplomats to visit and see the area.
Yazda representatives also addressed the issues and obstacles that face the Yazidi community and prevent them from returning to their homes. In addition to this, both sides discussed basic services, duplication of the local administrations, migration and the Yazidis who are still missing in ISIS captivity.
At the end of the meeting, the Yazda team provided the Ambassador with short-term and long-term solutions that support the stabilization of the minority territories and the roles that the diplomatic missions should a play to solve the many issues that are faced by these vulnerable communities.
