We are delighted to announce that resolution H.R. 390 titled “Iraq and Syria Genocide Relief and Accountability Act of 2018" was signed into Law by President Donald J. Trump. On behalf of the Yazidi Community and Yazda, we express our deepest gratitude for the historical action taken by the President today. We further thank all members of Congress from both sides of the aisle for supporting the bipartisan bill.
Our Executive Director, Murad Ismael, was invited for the signing ceremony at the White House in the Oval Office.
We welcome the steps taken by the United States Government to support victims of genocide, including the Yazidis in Iraq and Syria. The unwavering support by the US government and commitment for religious minorities is a great principle. The Yazidi community is delighted that the light of hope from the shores of America has reached a small, persecuted minority such as the Yazidis, who have suffered tremendously under ISIS.
We also appreciate President Trump’s direct support for Yazidi and Christian minorities through USAID’s direct funding to restore the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. Further, we are grateful to all faith-based organizations and individuals who supported the bill.
Yazda will remain committed to restoration of the lives and hopes of Yazidis and all minorities after four years of a continued genocide.
